Dear Editor:
Democratic Executive Committee Chairman Paul Detch is having a cow because Greenbrier County Clerk, Robin Loudermilk switched to the Republican party. I also changed parties in 2018 after observing what was happening with the Democratic party. I had also been thinking about making the switch for a few years. The Kavanaugh fiasco did it for me. It is despicable to use flimsy sexual accusations to ruin a man’s life because of political difference. Women in pink hats were banging away at the door of the Supreme Court Building and being paraded out of the Senate Building by the police in zip ties. I had a lot company when I stepped off that crazy train and went to the courthouse to join the Republican Party.
Earlier this week, I told my Democrat son that I am taking an active role in the operation of the GOP Headquarters in White Sulphur Springs. He expressed that he hopes that I steer the party away from divisive rhetoric and towards a more inclusive and fair future. Equality, education, environmental protection, fair taxation, workers’ rights.
My son talked about divisive rhetoric. It seems to me that most of that comes from the Democrats. The Republicans are not out stealing Biden signs or flipping off Vice President Mike Pence’s opponent if and when she comes to town. I am part of the walkaway movement which is very inclusive. Many individuals who do not fit the typical conservative stereotype have climbed off that liberal crazy train.
A young black Republican woman, Kim Klacik is running for Congress in Baltimore with the platform of correcting the damage done to that district by 50 plus years of Democrat control. Republican Joe Collins is a black navy veteran running to unseat Maxine Waters in California’s 43rd districts. Maxine Waters has done nothing for the people in her East Los Angeles district since 1991. I am supporting both the Klacik and Collins campaigns as a concerned citizen to West Virginia.
Former Republican Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice describes education has being the great equalizer. This snowballs into employment opportunities and worker’s rights. Republicans do not want dirty air or water but recognize that thinning the forest can be good for the environment. If West Virginia had California’s climate, this side of the continent would also be on fire. When President Trump talked about raking the forest, he was talking about heavy machinery not the garden rake.
My older son is convinced that I stepped over to the dark side and says that he misses his hippy mom. I haven’t changed. I still support the same issues from a conservative prospective. I traded the pink cat ears hat while trying to surf a tiny blue wave in favor of the Keep America Great hat while sailing in the Great Red Sea.
Love and Light,
Bonijean Isaacs
