Lewisburg-John R. Miller, Sr., 84, formerly of Ronceverte, went home to be with our Heavenly Father on Sunday, Feb. 23, 2020, at his daughter Carla’s home.
John was born June 3, 1935, in Lewisburg, the son of Matthew and Nellie Bly Seams Miller.
He was a graduate of Bolling High School, deacon and trustee of the First Baptist Church in Ronceverte, a U.S. Army Veteran, had started his working career with Brown’s Transfer, retired as sales supervisor with Bluegrass Electric after 46 years of service, sang with the men’s chorus of John Wesley United Methodist Church, was a caregiver for his mother in her latter years and was always willing to lend a helping hand when someone was in need.
Other than his parents, John was preceded in death in 2018 by his wife, Peggy Ruth Carter Miller and two sons-in-law, Maurice Kirby, Jr. and Dennis M. Reed.
Surviving are his two daughters, Evangeline Miller Reed of Beckley and Carla M. Kirby of Lewisburg; his son, John R. Miller, Jr. (Robin Hall) of Ronceverte; grandchildren, Isaiah Godfrey, Johnna Miller, Shanelle Kirby, Shyloh Mack and Chelsea Carter; great-grandchildren, Ezren Rye Moore and Adrian Rae Carter; his brother, James A. Miller of Philadelphia, PA; best friend, George Lee and numerous other close friends.
Mr. Miller’s service will be Saturday, Feb. 29, at 1 p.m. at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Ronceverte with Rev. Greg Scott, Pastor Kathie Holland and Rev. Walter Leach officiating.
The family will receive family and friends Saturday, Feb. 29, from 11 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers the family wishes that memorial contributions be made to a charity of your choosing.
