Fairlea-Cassie Eliza Faye Brown Logan was born to the late Mary Virginia and William Elliott Brown in Boomer on June 20, 1931. She departed this life peacefully Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2020, in Greenbrier Health Care Center in Fairlea.

Cassie was educated in the Greenbrier County public school system and went on to attend Bluefield State. On Nov. 10, 1950, she married the love of her life, the late Rev. Christopher Columbus, Jr. and to their union seven children were born. Cassie then returned to West Virginia University to become an educator while she worked at The Greenbrier Hotel. After successfully completing her studies for certification, she became a Reading Specialist with Greenbrier County schools and later a Kindergarten Teacher’s Aide at Lewisburg Elementary School. During her years as an educator, she touched the lives of many children, parents and colleagues. Known for her loving kindness, patience and the special attention that was given to each child, she will always be remembered. She retired from the school system in June of 1999.

Cassie loved the Lord and confessed her faith at a young age. She was a faithful member of Mt. Tabor Baptist Church where she was dedicated to singing in the choir, serving as a financial secretary and the Willing Worker Auxiliary, responsible for decorating the bulletin board and weekly preparation of the church bulletin.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her three sisters, Elmira Worthy, Helen Coleman and Julia Lewis and four brothers, Robert Ragland, Carlis Ragland, William Ragland, and Elliott Brown; daughter, Rosemary Winston; grandson, Alijah Williams; and a host of other relatives.

She leaves to celebrate her life: son, Christopher “Chucky” Logan III of Roanoke, VA; daughters, Joy “Doreen” Logan McDonald of Newport News, VA, Twana Logan Jackson, Toni (Darrewll) Logan Hughes, both of Lewisburg; Judith (Simeon) Logan Anthony and Tara (Anthony) Logan Williams, both of Nashville, TN; grandchildren, Adrian Logan of Charlotte, NC; André McDonald (Ziine) of Culpepper, VA; Carmela Jackson of South Beach Miami, FL; Angela Hughes of Lewisburg; Darrewll (Desiree) Hughes, Jr. of Lewisburg; Renata Jackson, Las Vegas, NV; RaShaun (Kiesha) Winston of White Sulphur Springs; Carmen Jackson, Lakeland, FL;  Logan Hughes, Baltimore, MD; Rashanda Winston and C.C. Winston of Lewisburg; Tenika Stewart of Newport News, VA; Chris Logan, IV of Roanoke, VA; Anthony Williams, Jr., Adam Anthony, Aleigha Williams, Simone Anthony, Amir Williams and Audreona Williams of Nashville, TN; 17 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

The funeral service was held on Saturday, Feb. 22, at Lewisburg Baptist Church where Rev. Ronald Sherrod and Rev. Greg Scott officiated. Burial will follow in Rosewood Cemetery.

Friends called Saturday at the church before the service.

Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Lewisburg is in charge of arrangements.
