Alderson-Harold Albert “John” Massie, 63, formerly of Ronceverte, passed away Sunday, Mar. 2, 2014, at his home in Alderson, following a long illness.

HAROLD ALBERT JOHN MASSIEBorn Feb. 23, 1951, in Ronceverte, he was the son of the late Susie O. Massie.

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Rosa Mae Holt; brother-in-law, Floyd Allen “Frog” Carter; and nephew, Gregory Scott Carter.

Mr. Massie was the retired owner and operator of Massie’s T’s of Fairlea and Alderson and the former Massie’s Wholesale of Alderson. Prior to his self-employment, he was a heavy equipment operator for several years with W & H Construction Company, Bluefield. He loved to play music and played the flat top rhythm guitar and enjoyed showing muscle cars. Mr. Massie loved to spend time with his family and close friends, especially his grandchildren.

Survivors include: his wife of 43 years, Phyllis C. Massie of Alderson; two daughters, Stephanie C. Massie and companion Robert Keith Heaton of Alderson and Darla Massie Reed and husband Jerry Reed of Alderson; two brothers, Harry L. Massie and wife Brenda of Ronceverte and Danny S. Massie and wife Alicia of Alderson; two sisters, Henrietta S. Carter of Ronceverte and Mary Massie Terry of Vinton, VA; four grandchildren, Taryn D. Zimmerman, Skyler J. Giese, Kirsten C. Heaton and Jerry R. Reed, Jr.; very special friends, Bobby and Robin Wilson of Alderson; and numerous aunts, uncles, in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be Friday, Mar. 7 at 2 p.m. at Lobban Funeral Home Chapel, Alderson, with Pastor James L. Combs officiating.

Burial will follow in the Alderson Cemetery, Alderson.

Friends called Thursday evening, Mar. 6 at the funeral home.

Serving as pallbearers will be: B.J. Wilson, Dennis Brackenridge, Doug Brackenridge, Levi Massie, Keith Terry and Rex Carter.
