Every spring at Carnegie Hall we celebrate the artwork of young artists by hosting the Creative Youth Art Exhibit. This year the juried art show will be in the Old Stone Room gallery from Mar. 3-28. The show features the best art work from students, grade 4-12, from public, private, and home schools in the Greenbrier Valley.

On Friday, Mar. 7, we will host an opening reception from 4:30-6 p.m. Awards and winners will be announced at 5:30 p.m. The public is invited to this event, as well as all the student artists, their families, teachers, and administrators. Last year we had over 150 people attend the awards reception.

Student artwork will be judged by a panel of judges selected by Carnegie Hall. The judging will be divided by category and grade. The categories are: Mixed Media, Drawing, Painting, Pastel and Photography. Grade 4-5, 6-8 and 9-12 will be judged separately. The Best in Show overall winner will be awarded a selection of art supplies to help further their artistic endeavors.

Judging the 2014 Creative Youth Art Exhibit are C.P. Burdette, retired Greenbrier County school teacher; Nikola Coates, former sculpture teacher and co-owner of Plants Etc.; Cathey Sawyer, artistic director of Greenbrier Valley Theatre; and Kasey Carter, executive director of Communities in Schools – Greenbrier County.

New this year – we will be featuring the winners from the Pocahontas County school art contest. This is a wonderful way to recognize fine young artists from another county.

Help us honor our young artists by sponsoring the refreshments for this reception. If interested, please contact Leah Trent, education director at Carnegie Hall, at 304-645-7917 or trent@carnegiehallwv.org.
