Dare to Cruz raises $2,318 for school program

The Sixth Annual “Dare To Cruz” car show was held in downtown Lewisburg on Saturday, Sept. 14. The show is an annual fundraiser for the department Dare program which is a drug and alcohol prevention program taught in 5th grade classes at Lewisburg Elementary School. Lt. Jeromy Dove is the department Dare instructor. This year’s event saw 155 entries and raised $2318. These funds came from entry fees, donations, T-shirt and hat sales and a raffle conducted by Ron Snedegar of Matco Tools who contributed $595 from raffle ticket sales. Another highlight of this year’s show was cars from the Dukes of Hazzard movie. These were displayed by Robert Bennett of Roanaoke, VA. Bennett is co-owner of Grand Home Furnishings.

Seven Specialty trophies were awarded: DARE Officer’s Choice – Eddie Counts, Caldwell, 1940 Ford; Lewisburg Police Department Choice – Charlie Brown, Hurricane, 1967 Chevelle; Merchants’ Choice – Brent Lynch, White Sulphur Springs, 1964 Chevrolet C-10 P/U truck; Mayor’s Choice – Lonnie Fernatt, Meadow Bridge, 1965 Volkswagon Notchback; Josh Massie Memorial Award – Eric Blake, Maxwelton, 2009 Mustang; Doug Massie Memorial Award – Jewell Moore, Covington, VA, 1970 Plymouth Barracuda; Rick Skaggs Memorial Award – Eddie and Jamie Harvey, Lewisburg, 1969 AMX.
