Charles Carney
Frankford-Charles Carney died Tuesday, Mar. 31, 2015, after a short illness.
He was born in Dunbar, WV, to Oval and Elizabeth Miller Carney on Oct. 20, 1933.
He is survived by: his wife of 57 years, Marilyn Campbell Carney; daughter, Betsy and sons Charles B., Clint and Jon; brothers, Jim and Fred; sisters, Elizabeth “DeDe” Ide and Carolyn Gibb; grandchildren, Cate, Sarah, Nick, Clint, Sean, Madison and Emma.
Charlie was a graduate of Marshall College (now University) and received his Master’s from WVU. He was a coach, teacher and high school principal for over 40 years. He was principal at George Wythe High School in Wvtheville, VA, for nine years and at Greenbrier East High School in Fairlea, for 13. He was happy to have spent so many years teaching and, most importantly, learning from the thousands of students he encountered.
He was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church and was a member of the Frankford Ruritan Club and active in his community. He was happiest with his family and the Greenbrier River and hunting and fishing with his friends.
Visitation will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Apr. 4, in Butler Hall at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in White Sulphur Springs, followed by the service at 2 p.m. A reception will be held in Butler Hall following the service. Interment will be at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Frankford Ruritan Club Scholarship Fund for graduates of Greenbrier East High School or to the Greenbrier County Public Library.
