For back to school shoppers and others looking to save some money, this year’s sales tax holiday begins on Friday, July 31 and runs through Monday, Aug. 3.

During the holiday the primary items that are exempt from sales tax are clothing, school supplies, school instruction materials, laptops and tablets that are $500 or less, and sports equipment that is $150 or less. There is no limit on the amount of the total purchase, the qualification is determined by each individual item.

While clothing is eligible for the tax holiday, some accessory items are not eligible. Items excluded include those such as belt buckles, briefcases, watches, jewelry, cosmetics, hair accessories, wallets and umbrellas.

Items purchased for use in a business or trade do not qualify for the tax exemption.
