Following a two-hour reception hosted by the Maxwelton Ruritan Club and the Greenbrier Valley Airport, WVU Mountaineer mascot Troy Clemons, of Maxwelton, received permission from Federal Aviation Administration tower personnel to fire his musket outside of the main terminal before a crowd of family members, airport officials and visitors and Ruritan members.
With the shouts of “Let’s Go Mountaineers,” the WVU graduate student fired his musket which is made specifically for him by a Morgantown gunsmith.
Several hundred area residents attended the reception, getting autographs and having photos taken with the Mountaineer mascot.
The next project of the Maxwelton Ruritans will be to operate the ice cream stand near the US 219 entrance to the state fairgrounds during the Wally Bryant Caravan convention later this month. Any area resident interested in volunteering at the stand can contact the Maxwelton Ruritan Club at 304-645-1373.
