John “Some Kind of Wonderful” Ellison

Carnegie Hall and The West Virginia Music Hall of Fame will present an evening of music with John “Some Kind of Wonderful” Ellison with special guest Landau Eugene Murphy, Jr., The Carpenter Ants, and the Mount Tabor Baptist Mass Choir on Friday, January 26, at 7:30 p.m. on the Carnegie Hall stage.

Singer/songwriter/guitarist John Ellison – born and raised in the coalfields of West Virginia – wrote the famed “Some Kind of Wonderful” which has been covered by more than 60 artists.

Landau Eugene Murphy Jr.

Landau Eugene Murphy, Jr. rose to fame as the winner of NBC’s “America’s Got Talent” in 2011. The West Virginia native has since sustained an impressive entertainment career while still residing in the Mountain State.

The Carpenter Ants, most notably known for their fine musicianship as the Mountain Stage band, refer to their eclectic style as “chicken-fried gospel soul.”

Lewisburg’s own Mount Tabor Baptist Mass Choir will join this spectacular lineup.

To accompany this evening of West Virginia-inspired music, there will be a one-night-only display about the history of the Populaires, the longtime pops band that entertained Old White Club guests for 41 years. Visit the WV Music Hall of Fame exhibit to experience this special display. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

Tickets to this event are $15. For more information, please visit www.carnegiehallwv.org or call 304-645-7917.
