District Governor, Charles Sheets from the Durbin Lions Club visited the White Sulphur Springs Lions Club on Jan. 12. The annual visit coincided with the anniversary of the WSS Lions Club which was chartered Jan. 14, 1957.

Visiting Lions came from Durbin, Lewisburg, Marlinton and Clay Lions Clubs. Special guest, Lion Lane Ellis from the Clay Lions Club was honored for having been a Lion for over 50 years. He joined Lions on Jan. 1, 1958.

Lion Joyce Poe who is President of the WSS Lions Club was presented with a Leonard Jarrett award for her service. The Leonard Jarrett is the highest state award in West Virginia.

Past District Governors, Dick Brockway and George Gillespie each received a Progressive Melvin Jones award, the highest award given by Lions Club international.

District Governor Sheets gave an excellent informational speech and among other points mentioned that all Lions clubs need members. A promotional campaign of “Ask One, Keep One” is ongoing to recruit new members. If interested in joining Lions to serve your community, meet other volunteers, and have a wonderful fellowship, please contact Lion Joyce Poe at 304-667-8225.
