World-traveling family of trail runners from Texas coming to race at Watoga

The “Traveling Lindhorsts” have a goal of entering half marathon trail races in all 50 states.

Meet the Traveling Lindhorsts, trail runners from Houston, Texas. Last month Bill and Kasia Lindhorst and their sons Christoph and Lukas set a family goal to enter half marathon trail races in all 50 states. They are coming to West Virginia for the Watoga State Park Mountain Trail Challenge on Aug. 11.

Kasia and Christoph, 13, will run the half marathon, while Bill and Lukas, 10, have entered the 5K race. Both races start and finish at Watoga’s Beaver Creek Campground. West Virginia will be the third state in their 50 state goal, which they hope to complete before Christoph graduates from high school in five years.

“We are super excited about the race. It is on our wedding anniversary so it’s a fun way to celebrate!” Kasia said.

They describe themselves as “the Travelling Lindhorsts” as they roam the world, running in every state and country they visit. They were running in Canada when they decided to do this, and last year they spent six days trail running in Morocco. Soon they will see how West Virginia compares to the Atlas Mountains of North Africa.

More information about the Watoga Mountain Trail Challenge can be found at and also at Online registration at ends Wednesday, Aug. 8, but there is registration on race day, Aug. 11 from 7 to 8 a.m. The half marathon starts at 8:30 a.m. and the 5K trail race at 8:40 a.m.
