As part of their domestic violence awareness month campaign, the Women’s Resource Center (WRC) is proud to host a special screening of “The Children Next Door” in conjunction with The Ritz Theatre. The screening will take place Oct. 1 at 7 p.m. at The Ritz in Hinton. A professional panel will be available immediately following the screening to discuss and answer questions about domestic violence and its effect on children.
“The Children Next Door,” an award-winning documentary presented by Children of Domestic Violence, is a stirring look at an age-old issue through a unique new lens – it recounts the fear and pain of domestic violence through the eyes of a child. It takes us on a young family’s journey to discover the solution to end a reoccurring cycle of violence and the truth that lies beneath. A ten-year marriage plagued by waves of mounting violence, all in front of their four children, culminated one horrific night. The film opens five and a half years later as the family continues to struggle with the impact of the violence that shaped their lives. The film, which released in the fall of 2012, has screened at nearly 20 film festivals, received praise from multiple critics, and captured three awards, including the Special Jury Prize at the DOC NYC film festival. It is now gearing up for its official bid for a 2014 Academy Award. Learn more and watch the trailer at www.cdv.org/documentary or at www.TheChildrenNextDoor.com.
