The Women of the Henning Church of God gathered Oct. 10 in the church fellowship hall for their regular monthly meeting. Carole Spencer presided, and Donna Scott led in prayer.
Joan Vance, missionary education cochair, shared about local missions. The group helped Frankford Elementary students last year and plan to help this year also. Another project is to host a work camp for a church from Petersburg, WV, for flood victims recovery. Our group also plans to donate to Church of God in Puerto Rico for hurricane victims.
Dyan Hefner, spiritual life director gave the devotion, “Language is the expression of thought,” with scripture reference from Luke 6:45. We talk about what matters to us most. If we love Jesus we should talk about Him. She also shared about “Tied with heart strings.” This is celebrated the day before Thanksgiving. Baked goods are wrapped in an apron with a poem or card attached and given to a neighbor or someone in need. This provides our daily bread and extra.
Jamie Harvey gave the Treasurer’s Report and Pauline Perkins read last month’s Minutes. The group reported sending 113 cards and making 21 visits and 45 phone calls.
The bean dinner was a success. The group voted to raise the price of the bean dinner to $10 for adults and $5 for children. The group was reminded about the Pastor Appreciation Dinner to be held after the church service on Sunday, Oct. 15. Apple butter will be made Oct. 21 and apple and pumpkin pies will be made Oct. 23. The church will host a Community Outreach Thanksgiving Dinner on Wednesday, Nov. 22, from 4-7 p.m. This dinner will be free. The group’s Christmas Dinner and secret pal exchange will be held Tuesday, Dec. 5 at 6 p.m. The next meeting will be held Nov. 14.
