Winners of 2025 Shanghai Parade announced

The annual Shanghai Parade in Lewisburg saw an impressive crowed despite snow flurries and a near-freezing temperature. 
A festival tractor hoists three parade participants high in the air. 

Antique Car Division:

First Place – Jerry Vance, 1946 Plymouth

Second Place – Bill and Gloria Martin

Third Place – Debbie Yates and Buddy Bear of Radio Greenbrier

Equestrian Class Prize Winners:

First Place – April Robinson on Jade, Laura Plumley on Sadie, Cathy Romage on Prissy, and Mark Romage on Phoebe

Musical Winners:

First Place – Greenbrier Valley Music Foundation

Animal Winners:

First Place – The Greenbrier Goat

Second Place – The Knights

Third Place – Ronnie Snedegar

Float Winners:

First Place – A Beard Tradition – Roots Wing Traditional Things

Second Place – State Fair of WV

Third Place – Greenbrier Valley Agritourism

Decorated Farm Equipment Winners:

First Place – Carol Crane

Second Place – Sparrow and Aaron Huffman’s Tractor

Third Place – Abel Holliday- Tradition My Whole Life

Walking Winners:

First Place – Walking Jeff – Jeff Jeffus

Second Place – Nathaniel Vincent – Stay Alive in 2025

Third Place – Susan Robinson – The Green Witch

Walker Winners of Three or More:

First Place – Thomas Gorsuch – Mothman and FBI

Second Place – Theodora Lucrezia – Girls in Wool Coats

Third Place -Van Preston –  The Hub

Joe Ellis Memorial Tradition Award: Jerry Vance

Mary Satterfield Spirit of Shanghai Award: The Greenbrier Goat

Chairman’s Award: State Fair of WV

Jim Wills Memorial Award: Walking Jeff, Jeff Jeffus

The oldest participant was Jeff Jeffus at 93 years old, the youngest participant was Beckum Erskine as the New Year’s Baby, and the farthest traveled was Melissa Sanchez from Utah. 

The Super Duper Pooper Scooper was The State Fair of WV, celebrating 100 years in 2025, with the wheelbarrow being pushed by Brad Tuckwiller and Calvin Swine with the shovel. Judges this year were Meredith German with the Lewisburg Surf Shop, Linda Gullakson, Chuck Gullakson, GEHS Coach Ray Lee, and EGMS Principal Sue Lee. The m/c was Mike Kidd, and scorekeepers were Michele Hanna and Shane Hanna. 

The temperature hovered around 34 degrees, and the estimated crowd turnout was 1,800 people. There were 51 parade entries, and the parade itself was 35 minutes long. 

The Shanghai Parade Committee consists of Chair Dr. Mary Ann Mann, Treasurer DeEtta King Hunter, Mike Kidd, Steve Hunter, Sheryl Hulmes, Susan Sharp Campbell, Mike and Jeanie Wyatt, Michele Hanna, Shane Hanna, Seth Kidd, Pam Berry, and Joe Mitchin. Special thanks to Gary Canterbury of GC Sales for furnishing the judge’s stand, Boy Scout Troop 70, The City of Lewisburg, The Asylum, Radio Greenbrier, the WVDN, the Mountain Messenger, and the State of WV Fairs and Festivals grant, and all of the participants who make this parade an awesome event!

Prizes may be picked up at Lewisburg City Hall until Jan. 31.

The Greenbrier Goat took home the Mary Satterfield Spirit Award, as well as first place in the animals category.
Horses in hats lined the streets.
