The Williamsburg CEOS Club met Tuesday, Aug. 9, at the Williamsburg District Historical Museum. The meeting was called to order by Barbara Deeds, president and began with the devotion “Dare to be Different” including 1st Corinthians chapter 15 verse by Virginia Hanna. Minutes of the July meeting were read by Virginia Hanna and approved. Members present were Cassandria Perkins, Virginia Hanna, Loretta Shirley, Blanche Knicely, Dorothy Hayes, Laura Rose and Barbara Deeds. Guests present were Laura Sevy and Gayle Hostetler. They reported 201 volunteer hours, 313 motivational hours and 22 books read.
The Treasurer’s report was given by Dorothy Hayes who reminded members their dues will be collected at the September meeting.
Blanche Knicely gave a report on the Williamsburg Community Fair. She reported the club had a display of glass and pottery which received a blue ribbon. Cassandria Perkins did a display about coal mining that received a yellow ribbon. Blanche Knicely also had a healthy drink station featuring fruit drinks from the CEOS lesson given in June by Patty Post.
Virginia Hanna reported on the CEOS county picnic held on Muddy Creek Mountain in July. Speakers there gave members a lot of information about domestic abuse and there was great entertainment by Lucy Ramey.
This month was reorganization month. Officers and committee chairs were selected. Changes made were installing Blanche Knicely as treasurer replacing resigning treasurer Dorothy Hayes and Barbara Deeds will be chairing the Family and Health committees replacing Patty Post. Other officers and committee chairs will remain the same for 2017.
Get well, Birthday and Sympathy cards were prepared for members of the community. Nonperishable foods were collected for the local food pantry.
The next meeting will be held Sept. 13 with a lesson “Colorful Reflections: How Glass Molded West Virginia” by Cassandria Perkins. The meeting will be held at the Williamsburg Historical Museum.
The club would welcome new members, if anyone is interested in joining or wants information about Community Educational Outreach Service (CEOS), they may contact the club’s marketing and membership chairman, Loretta Shirley at 304-645-2238, any of the above members or Kay Davis at the WVU Extension Office in Fairlea at 304-647-7408.
