Lewisburg-William Joseph (BJ) Livesay, Sr., 88, formerly of Lewisburg, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Apr. 7, 2020, in South Carolina.
BJ was born Feb. 24, 1932, to the late William Grey and Elsie Ford Livesay.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Melvin Grey Livesay and sister, Nadine Livesay Smith.
BJ’s careers spanned broad areas of interest ranging from the Coca-Cola Company, Bank of White Sulphur Springs, real estate, and culminating with the honor of serving as Greenbrier County Clerk for 12 years.
BJ loved Lewisburg and Greenbrier County and took great pride in his community. He was a member of the Beni Kedem Shrine, a previous Exalted Ruler of Lewisburg Elks Club, a member of Greenbrier Commandery Fifteen Knights Templar, and was on the Board of Directors for Greenbrier Manor. BJ was an avid golfer and enjoyed sharing his love of music with friends and family.
He is survived by his two children, Melissa Livesay Able (Keith) of Ridgeland, SC and son, William Joseph (Joe) Livesay, Jr. (Tine) of Charleston, SC; his brothers, James G. Livesay of Ronceverte, Tony (Betty) Livesay, of Lewisburg, and Carolyn Livesay, of Ronceverte; six grandchildren; and two nieces, Brenda Smith and Lou Ann Smith Pearson (Fred).
BJ will be greatly missed and affectionately remembered by friends and family as a kind-hearted snappy dresser who was always whistling a tune.
A graveside service for BJ, his wife Pat, and sister-in-law, Renae Livesay is planned for Friday, Aug. 7, at 11 a.m. at Rosewood Cemetery in Lewisburg.
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Greenbrier Historical Society in BJ’s honor.
