Andrea “Andie” Pendleton, Mayor of Rainelle, is on a mission to sell 500 American flags. Stating she had a dream years ago in which she could “see Rainelle with flags flying all across it.” Four years ago she took on the project to sell 500 flags and sold 700 before she’d finished the campaign that year. Pendleton is encouraging local sponsors to help her sell another 500 flags this year. “We want to make our town shine,” she exclaimed.

The all-weather 3 by 5-foot flag comes in a pre-mounted set that includes a 6-foot silver-tone spinning flagpole at a per-set cost of $31, which includes a processing fee. The set regularly sells for $50, Pendleton says. Anyone interested in purchasing a flag may contact Pendleton at 304-667-9233, Rainelle Town Hall clerk Sandra Hanna at 304-438-7191, or City National Bank: Sandy Sorrell at 304-438-6144. Payment is required in advance.

Pendleton, who was at the county commissioners meeting on Tuesday was able to get all three commissioners to sign up for a flag, raising her total sales so far to 53. She hopes the entire town of Rainelle is filled with American flags to greet the West Virginia Veterans’ Reunion and the Run for the Wall event which takes place around Memorial Day weekend. She urges, “Let’s all stand behind this wonderful civic effort. Let’s all be a patriot!”
