Walter R. Furrow Sr., 76, of Union, passed away Saturday, Apr. 19, 2025, in his home with his family surrounding him. He was the son of the late Virgil Thomas Furrow Sr. and Elsie Lee Alderman Furrow.

Walter was born in Sophia, WV, and raised on Sarton Mountain. His parents later moved to Fredericksburg, VA. There he met his wife of 60 years, Delores, the love of his life.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his grandson, Michael Lee Furrow, his sisters, Cora Furrow and Patsy Furrow Knight, his brothers, Ronald Furrow, Virgil Furrow, Jr., Roger Furrow, and Lucky Furrow.

He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Delores Mae Furrow; son Walter Furrow, Jr. (Joann), kids Amanda Furrow Bowling (Matt), Ray Furrow (Bridgette), Heather Sullivan (Matt), Brittany Sullivan, and Jake Sullivan; son James Furrow (Dreama), kids JJ Furrow (Krystal), Kendra Raymond (Dylan); daughter Melissa Furrow Boggs (Michael), kids Lexi Boggs, Chaz Boggs, and Bella Boggs. Walter is survived by a brother, Rocky Furrow (Becky), and two sisters, Ava Boczor (John) and Cheryl Furrow. Also, many great-grandchildren and special nieces and nephews.

Walter was a mason by trade. It was a trade he used to start Walt’s Construction in 1982. A company that his oldest son continues today. In 1987, Walter began Jim’s Auto Parts with his son Jim. A business Walter operated in Monroe County for 30 years. Delores and all three kids participated in this business with Walter. He was a member of the Rock Camp Baptist Church. He enjoyed working, spending time with his family, eating Maryland crabs, and in his later years, traveling. He and Delores loved their trips out west, and he loved the trips he was able to take to the islands. Ultimately, Walters’ greatest success in life was his family.

Honorary pallbearers are Justin Freeman, Bucky Freeman, Jamie Allen, Larry Cosgro, Donald Dunbar, and his lifelong friend Jessie Carter, who had already gone home and was waiting for Walter.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations to be made in Walter’s honor to the Sports of Monroe Foundation, 280 Walnut Ridge Road, Peterstown, WV 24963.

A visitation will be held from 5 until 7 p.m. Friday, Apr. 25, at the Groves-Mann Funeral Home in Union, WV.
