Many West Virginia military veterans are benefiting from an educational program called Veterans Upward Bound, which is a U.S. Department of Education TRIO Program dedicated to helping veterans of the U.S. military take full advantage of the educational opportunities available to them.

Veterans Upward Bound provides services throughout West Virginia. VUB provides all services and materials free of charge to program participants and can help prepare them for higher education by offering refresher classes in English, math, science and computer skills.

Refresher classes are offered throughout West Virginia on a continual basis. Classes normally take place one evening per week for 8 to 10 weeks. The next round of computer skills classes will begin in February in Beckley, Lewisburg, and Summersville.

Veterans Upward Bound can also help veterans secure all the financial aid they deserve, simplify and streamline the means to admission and enrollment, help veterans understand GI benefits, and provide timesaving links to other veterans’ agencies.

Veterans Upward Bound can also act as a resource and referral service for any questions veterans may have.

To receive assistance from Veterans Upward Bound, military veterans must not have received a dishonorable discharge.

For more information on the upcoming computer skills classes, or on other services provided by VUB, call Curtis Pauley at 304-646-0684 or email pauleyc@dewv.edu, or visit the website www.vubwv.org.
