‘UnCanny’ presentation wins $1,050 for Meredith Young Jewelry

Greenbrier Valley Entrepreneur Café 4 winner Meredith Young with a display of her recycled jewelry

A business based on recycling cans to create beautiful jewelry was the high scorer at the Feb. 18 Entrepreneur Café. Meredith Young’s presentation entitled “UnCanny” uniquely described her home-based business need for manufacturing dies to increase production to fill orders from 130 outlets including Whole Foods. Close contenders included: When Pigs Fly Bar B Que, Greenbrier Valley Brewery and New World Alterations. Crowd-funders enjoyed a delicious meal from Sam’s Club and helped to increase the seed funding award to $1,050.

The next Café will be held in late spring. Applications are now being taken at www.gvecafe.com. The economic development event is presented by Greenbrier Valley Economic Development, New River Community and Technical College and the Greater Greenbrier Chamber of Commerce. Individuals making the event possible include Jill Holliday, Ron Magruder, Peggy Crowder, Selina Cahill, Nan Morgan, Amber McHale, Steve Weir and Katie Ickes.
