Ivy Terrace continues at Carnegie Hall! The Ivy Terrace series is a summertime favorite in the Greenbrier Valley. Fun for all ages, families and friends enjoy free live music on the lawn of Carnegie Hall the 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month through August. Performing on Aug. 13 is Robin & Doug, a duo performing an eclectic mix of country, blues, folk, and bluegrass.
Doug Blankenship is an impressive, self-taught Monroe County guitar finger-picker, with an expressive voice which shows great depth and feeling. Over the years, he has performed with several area bands playing bluegrass, gospel, rock, folk, blues, and country music. His favorite music though, is that with lyrics that make you want to cry. It is worth paying attention to his soft interpretations and original compositions, but be warned, you might want to keep a tissue handy.
Robin Wright is recent to the music scene, learning to improvise on the cello with her Friday night home-grown music group, and now to Doug’s mostly mournful melodies. She started singing with Doug, while listening to her practice CD’s of his music, and found their voices were a natural fit. Complimenting one another in every way, their harmonies run sweet and true.
Join those who have made Ivy Terrace Carnegie’s most beloved series of the year. Bring a picnic supper, a blanket or lawn chair, and sit back and relax to the sounds of music performed by a variety of local and regional artists. All performances begin at 6:30 p.m., rain or shine. In the event of rain, the concerts will be moved inside the Hamilton Auditorium.
The final Ivy Terrace performance of the season will be held on Aug. 27 featuring the Hans Creek String Band. For more information about upcoming concerts and performing artists, please visit www.carnegiehallwv.org.
