Alderson-TSgt Charles Delmus Mitchell, USAF (RET), 78, went to be with our Lord on Monday, Feb. 8, 2016, surrounded by his family at his home in Alderson.
Born Dec. 9, 1937, in Montgomery, WV, he was the son of the late Delmus David and Lola May Cutlip Mitchell.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by son, Ricky Gene Mitchell; and brother, James Mitchell.
TSgt Mitchell attended Rupert High School and served our Country in the United States Air Force retiring as a Technical Sergeant after 20 years of service. He was a member of the Griffith Creek Baptist Church at Alderson, a Free Mason, a member of the American Legion and DAV. TSgt Mitchell had many interests. He loved playing music, camping, traveling, working outside, hunting and fishing, and especially loved his children and being home in West Virginia.
Those left to cherish his memory include: his wife of 55 years, Mary Jane McGarry Mitchell of Alderson; three children, Charles David Mitchell and wife Laura of Mocksville, NC, Billy Wayne Mitchell and wife Melissa “Missie” of Alderson and Jennifer Weaver of Alderson; six grandchildren, Joshua, Jacob and Jared Mitchell of North Carolina, Billy and Abigail Mitchell of Alderson and Sara Weaver of Alderson; five great-grandchildren, Hannah Hanson of North Carolina, Hunter, Zack and Emma Taylor of North Carolina and Colt Lee Cline of Alderson; brother, Gary Wayne Mitchell of Rupert; sister, Robyn Butler of Rainelle; many nieces, nephews and friends; and his constant companion and best buddy, Dusty, his 13 year old Pomeranian.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, Feb. 13, at 11 a.m. at the Griffith Creek Baptist Church, HC 73 Box 24A, Alderson, WV 24910, with Pastor Audie Sorg officiating. Full military funeral honors will be conducted by the US Air Force Honor Guard, Andrews Air Force Base, Maryland.
