West Virginia Transportation Secretary Byrd White clarifies information regarding the WV Division of Motor Vehicles operations and services, emphasizing that license and registration renewals are being extended for 90 days.

“While the Charleston DMV headquarters will remain in operation with a smaller staff to continue all online and mail-in business transactions, the 25 DMV regional offices and exam centers are closed to the public beginning today,” stated Secretary White. “Also, to ease the burden on citizens impacted by these closures, the DMV is giving a 90-day extension on license, instructional permits and registration renewals. We are doing this out of an abundance of caution, and in accordance with the most recent guidelines and best practices recommended by both the CDC and West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources regarding COVID-19.”

Many of the most requested DMV transactions can be performed online or mailed in and do not require a trip to a regional office.

Online services include:

• Driver’s license renewal (if no changes, and every other cycle)

• Duplicate driver’s license request

• Vehicle registration renewals

• Duplicate vehicle registration decals and cards

• Print your driving record

• Check your driver’s license status

For a full list of online services or for more information, please visit the DMV website, www.dmv.wv.gov, or call the toll-free number, 1-800-642-9066.

For more information about COVID-19 prevention and more, call the State’s toll-free hotline at 1-800-887-4304 or visit Coronavirus.wv.gov.
