Lewisburg – Thurman Cleveland Wade, 93, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2018, at Greenbrier Health Care Center in Lewisburg.
He was born May 5, 1924, in Baltimore, MD, the son of the late John Ernest Wade and Florence Stewart Wade.
Mr. Wade was a WWII Navy veteran, he was aboard the last voyage of the USS Plymouth when it was sunk by a torpedo fired from the German enemy, 95 perished with only 84 surviving. He had worked as a Foreman in a glass factory. He loved volunteering at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center and the Greenbrier County Committee on Aging.
Preceding him other than his parents were: sister, Dorothy Marie Buckingham; and brother, Walter Wade.
He is survived by his wife of 75 years, Lucille Lindsey Wade, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were on Thursday, Feb. 15, at the Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Lewisburg where Pastor Gary Baker officiated.
The family received friends Thursday evening at the funeral home.
