The New River Community and Technical College Office of Workforce Education in Lewisburg has announced three community education classes that will be offered at the Lee Street Complex (former Lewisburg Elementary School) during November.

New River CTC accounting instructor and CPA Bryan Seldomridge will offer a one-night overview of What You Need to Know to Start a Business on Wednesday, Nov. 5, from 6-9 p.m.

Although thousands of Americans catch the entrepreneurial spirit every year and launch small business, only about 20 percent of new businesses survive past the first 18 months. Seldomridge will cover important elements to help small businesses succeed such as business planning, financing options, employment considerations, small business taxes and accounting /payroll and solutions for small businesses. The deadline to register is Friday, Oct. 31.

Sherry Ratliff will teach a class on Tips for Reading the Body on Thursday, Nov. 13, from 6-8 p.m. Participants will learn to learn signs in their bodies that can help diagnose problems and save a trip to the doctor. Ratliff will discuss how unhealthy lifestyles can contribute to our biggest health problems including stroke, heart disease, diabetes and cancer. The registration deadline is Tuesday, Nov. 11.

On Tuesday, Nov. 11, instructor Terri Pyne will lead a class on Breathing and Relaxation. She will teach two different sessions, the first from 10-11 a.m., and the second from 7-8 p.m. The class will focus on incorporating breath in all activities such as singing, exercise and public speaking. The deadline to register is Friday, Nov. 7.

For further information, or to register for a class, call Sandra Wilmer at 304-793-3001 or Gloria Kincaid at 304-793-6101.
