Thomas Augustus “Gus” Patterson

Thomas Augustus “Gus” Patterson, was born Dec. 10, 1995 and tragically left this world to his home beyond the stars on Jan. 11, 2026.

Gus was a charismatic and kind soul. To know him was to love him – his charm was as effortless as it was inescapable. He was a loyal friend, a loving brother, and a dedicated son.

His love of the outdoors led him to a dual-degree in wildlife and fisheries from West Virginia University. He was fun loving and craved the outdoors. He excelled at everything he tried, and found true peace while fishing, snowboarding, golfing, and playing music. His intelligence and curiosity for the world allowed him to recite even the most obscure details of any subject on a whim. His smile was ever present and infected anyone who saw it. He was quick witted, loved a bonfire with friends, and wasn’t afraid of adventure. He had a spiritual connection with music – always grabbing a guitar to share his version whenever he could with whomever would listen. He was a powerful soul, a deep thinker, and wiser than his years provided. He put his all into everything he did and loved stronger than anyone. He was a good man and he deserved more than this life offered him.

He left behind so many broken hearts made up of immeasurable friends and a loving family. Those closest to him are anxiously awaiting the chance to see him again including his Dad (Tom), Mom (Karen), Sister (Meggy), brother-in-law (Calin), nephew and niece (Silas and Etta), girlfriend (Luci) and her son and brother respectively, Kannon and Weston. He also leaves many cousins, aunts and uncles, and a lifetime of friends – none of whom will be the same without him.

He was reunited with those who have gone before – Grandpa Perk and Granny Faye Patterson, Grandma and Grandpa Holliday and his niece, Arlie Owens.

In lieu of flowers, we ask that you pay it forward in his honor. Whether big or small – be selfless like he was and show the world some love. Think of him as you hike or sit on the water. We now celebrate a life of too few years – let his memory be happy and full of love.

Visitation will be from 4 until 7 p.m., Friday evening, Jan. 16, at Wallace & Wallace Chapel, Rainelle followed by a prayer service at 7 p.m. with Pastor Jeremy Nicholas officiating.
