Running from Sept. 28 through Nov. 16, Carnegie Hall’s third annual Hall-O-Ween series offers fun and exciting opportunities to get you ready for Halloween, trick or treat, and beyond.
Carnegie Hall-O-Ween kicks on Saturday, Sept. 28, from 12 noon to 3 p.m. with Ceramic Posh Pumpkins with teaching artist Amie Durrman. In this workshop students explore simple and easy clay techniques, such as adding surface texture or pattern, in hand building clay pumpkins. Registration is $65 for members; $90 for adult and child pair. Students must be 10 years of age or older.
This year, the All Things Pumpkin Culinary Contest will take place during Taste Of Our Towns (TOOT) on Saturday, Oct. 12 at the Greenbrier County CVB. Enter your best sweet or savory pumpkin recipe and be the second winner in the annual Carnegie Hall All Things Pumpkin Contest. Judging will occur at 2 p.m. and conclude with a live awards presentation. The best recipe winner will receive a $200 cash prize, bragging rights for the whole year, and the Golden Pumpkin Award, a custom-made one-of-a-kind art piece created by a different Carnegie Hall Teaching Artist each year. This year’s award is a beautiful stained-glass window hanging created by Glasswerks artist Lynda Weischowsky.
On Friday, Oct. 18, at 7 p.m., 2022 West Virginia Folk Artist of the Year Adam Booth presents Ghost Stories and Spookier Things. Adam’s spooky stories include traditional and original stories about ghosts (haints, haunts, and boogers), witches, inexplicable phenomena, and strange creatures from West Virginia. Adam blends traditional mountain folklore, music, and an awareness of contemporary Appalachia to create original, forward-thinking story artistry. Not for the faint of heart, these stories are truly spooky and not for young or immature listeners.
A returning favorite of Hall-O-Ween week, the Historic Candlelit Cemetery Tours are back on Friday, Oct. 25, at 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. Walking tours will explore the fascinating history of a selection of Lewisburg’s well-known grave markers and interesting details of the lives – and deaths – of the interred.
