Owner Randolph “Joe” Baker and assistant Lonnie Spencer with some of the appliances they have for sale at The Bargain Box.

Need a “new to you” appliance at a bargain price? The Bargain Box on Walnut Street in Alderson may have what you need. Randolph “Joe” Baker has used washers, dryers, refrigerators, and electric stoves at bargain prices.

The new business takes in appliances, cleans them, and repairs them if needed. If the appliance cannot be repaired, usable parts are removed and the rest is donated to the ROTC program at Greenbrier East High School. Washers usually sell for around $200, dryers for $150, electric stoves for $150, and refrigerators for $275. A $25 discount is given if an old appliance is traded in. All appliances are given a 30 day warranty. If they stop running during that time they will be repaired or replaced.

Baker said, “A lot of people cannot afford to buy new so this shop meets a need.” Lonnie Spencer is his able assistant in the business.

Mayor Travis Copenhaver said, “These guys are keeping usable appliances out of the landfill and helping people who might not be able to buy something new. It works for everyone.”

Usually open from 9 a.m.- 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, the Bargain Box can be reached at 304-992-9809 or 304-667-1947.
