May is National Foster Child Awareness Month and you can help show your support. CASA asks that superheroes of all ages gather at White Sulphur Springs Elementary School for a 5K, 1 mile Family Fun /Walk Run, and children’s race on Saturday May 28.
The race is in tandem with the annual West Virginia Dandelion Festival held there on Memorial Day weekend. This race will benefit CASA of the Eleventh Judicial Circuit, which serves Pocahontas and Greenbrier counties. Prizes will be awarded for the best costume and the best family/group costumes. This year we will also have villains for the “Superheroes” to chase.
Trophies for the 5K are the top 3 male/female in each category: 15 and under, 16-20, 21-30, 31-40 and 40 and over.
CASA is a national nonprofit organization which trains and supports volunteers to speak out and act as advocates for the best interests of abused and neglected children. They are trained to work within the child welfare and circuit court systems and are appointed by judges to individual cases. With the help of a CASA volunteer, a child is half as likely to languish in the foster care system, and that much more likely to find a safe and permanent home.
