Several departments at Dabney S. Lancaster Community College will partner to offer Super FAFSA Thursdays on Feb. 11 in McCarthy Hall on the DSLCC main campus in Clifton Forge. This event is offered to help students and parents apply for financial aid to assist with the cost of attending college. Super Thursday will be held from 4-7:30 p.m.
“Staff members from Educational Talent Search, Student Support Services and the Financial Aid Office will be on hand to assist all students with the financial process in filling out the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid),” said Christie Hardbarger, director of Talent Search. “As part of its mission to serve the community, DSLCC will offer this service to all students, regardless of their college destination. Students who are already college students and need help with a FAFSA renewal will also be eligible to receive assistance.”
Rachael Thompson, executive director of the DSLCC Educational Foundation, announced that any student who attends “Super Thursday” to fill out a FAFSA form and who also completes (or has completed) a DSLCC admissions application is eligible for a drawing which will award two scholarships in the amount of $100.
College personnel from other areas will be on hand to help students fill out college applications or answer questions about programs of study at DSLCC. “Students will have the opportunity to find out about the various occupational, technical and allied health programs, the transfer programs, and articulation and guaranteed admissions agreements that are in place with DSLCC and many other colleges and universities around the state,” added Matt McGraw, director of student services. “This is a great opportunity to ask questions and receive individual assistance with completing these college forms.”
Students and/or parents may make an appointment for either event by calling the Talent Search office at 540-863-2897, or they may simply “walk in” the day of the event. Parents desiring to complete the FAFSA should bring completed tax forms and W-2 statements for the parents and student.
