Sue Spicer of White Sulphur Springs passed away on Monday, Feb. 24, 2025, at Johnston-Willis Hospital, Richmond, VA, following a short illness.

She was born June 22, 1954, in White Sulphur Springs, the daughter of the late John “Duke” and Mildred Allen Traynor.

Sue graduated from Greenbrier East High School and received her Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Morris Harvey College (now the University of Charleston). She was a member of Delta Zeta Sonority. She worked at the former Hanover Shoe, Aide’s Department Store, the WV Daily News and Duke’s Body Shop before becoming a State Farm Agent in 1983, starting a scratch agency in White Sulphur Springs. She continued to own her own agency until her death.

Sue was a former WV State President of the WV Jaycee Women; chairman of the St. Jude’s Hospital for the National Jaycee Women, Editor for their national newspaper and served on numerous committees during her Jaycee Women career. She was active in WSS PTO, serving as president and other offices. She was a Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader for numerous years and always enjoyed the boys she got to mentor.

When Sue’s son got older, she was Treasurer of the Band Boosters for Eastern Greenbrier Junior High. She supported the band boosters for the Junior and Senior High School.

During her lifetime she was very active for the Greenbrier Humane Society, having Adopt-a-Thons in White Sulphur Springs. Sue was responsible for many animals getting adopted in Greenbrier County. She supported many animal rescues including, Soaring Hope, Best Friends, and Pit Bull Rescue. She was a member and former officer for Main Street White Sulphur Springs, member of Whatcoat United Methodist Church and was a Court Appointed Special Advocate for the 11th District Court System.

Sue was elected to the WV State Republican Executive Committee for 16+ years and was also a member of the Greenbrier County Executive Committee, serving as Chairman from 2014-2018. She was fortunate during her political career to receive the Greenbrier County Republican of the Year award in 2012. She recently became President of the Greenbrier Chapter of the Federation of Republican Women. Also, during her tenure, she had the opportunity to attend George W. Bush’s second inauguration and also got to meet and greet President Donald Trump.

Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by sister, Sheila Murphy of Iron Gate, VA. She also was preceded in death by many of her fur babies named, Kasey, Daisy, Jake, Flash, Moose, Betsy, Kelly, Tassie, Cocoa and Rosie.

She is survived by her husband of 30 years, Bob Spicer; and son John Michael Jeffries (Morgan Ling) of Fishers, IN; stepson Kevin Spicer (Kim) of Roanoke, VA, and her fur babies Bo, Suzyq, Sugar, Bella, Sable and Luke.

Per her wishes, the body was cremated. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, Mar. 1, at 1 p.m. at the Alvon Living Word Church, Alvon, WV, with Pastor Buck Caldwell and Pastor Bobby McClintic officiating.

The family will receive family and friends from 12 noon until time of services on Saturday at the church.
