
Sue Ella Miano passed away peacefully in her home Aug. 21, 2026.
Sue Ella was born Sept. 19, 1929 in Ronceverte to Mark E. Gee and Mary Sue “Sudie” Shanklin Gee.
She graduated Greenbrier High and attended Concord College where she met her husband Anthony Miano. They raised their family in Michigan where they were involved in their community and church. Sue Ella returned to Ronceverte in the 1980s where she became an active member of the community and was awarded Citizen of the Year in 1999.
Her work included the Friends of the Library, Library board, Women’s Club, Read Aloud Program, Ronceverte Development Corporation, Lewisburg Carnegie Hall, River Festival Committee, Local School Improvement Council, The Lunch Bunch and more. Many of these roles Sue Ella acted as a founding member or board member.
She was also an actress, golfer, avid reader and skilled cross stitcher. Sue Ella was well known for her love of telling stories and had countless friends. She was very proud of her heritage and home, which was built by her family pre-Civil War.
Sue Ella is beloved mother to son Mark (Connie) Miano, daughters Kathi (David) Lowe and Melinda (Neil) Suits, grandmother to Nina (Gary), Renee, Casey (Tia), Jacob, great-grandmother to Spence, aunt to Ella, Karen, Chris, and friend to Jeanne Holley, as well as innumerable other friends and family members.
Services will be held Sept. 11 at 11 AM at the St. Catherine’s of Siena Catholic Church in Ronceverte with Rev. Kevin M. Quirk [verify title/abbreviation]. Interment will follow in Riverview Cemetery in Ronceverte. A luncheon will be held at the Ronceverte Baptist Church following the graveside service.
The family will be receiving family and friends on Sept. 10, from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
