The Stonewood CEOS club met at the Congregational Missionary Church fellowship hall. The meeting was called to order by president Ladonna Tucker. Members present were Ladonna Tucker, Deloris Wilson, Estella Farnsworth, Pam Cowdrey, Eva Summers, Barbara Graham, Terri Jo Boyers, and April Stout. A candle was lit in memory of our deceased members. Pam read devotions entitled Teach me to Remember My Day. In your day always put aside some hours for God. Flag salutes for the American and WV flags were recited. Terri Jo, co-Health Motivator led the club in singing Country Roads. Minutes of last meeting were read by Secretary Estella Farnsworth, they were accepted as read; Thank you cards from Amedisys Hospice and the Mustard Seed were read. Treasurer Pam Cowdrey gave the Treasurer’s report; it was filed for audit.
The lesson today was by Pam Cowdrey entitled Fairs and Festivals; 100 years of the State Fair in WV. In 1854 a fair was held for the first time Greenbrier Valley, Virginia. Over the next 60 years the Greenbrier Valley Fair, now located in WV became one of the state’s most popular events and remains so today. Our club worked the welcome table at the Stonewood Fireman’s Festival on Aug. 1st. Ladonna Tucker, membership and marketing chair announced that Sandy Depolo won the Steeler Throw made by our club and raffled off at the Fireman’s Festival with all proceeds donated to the Fire Department.
A book report was given by Deloris Wilson, entitled Apple Harvest; which is an Amish Book. She stated that it was very good. So if you’re looking for a new book to read, check it out. Show and Share was also brought by Deloris shared a beautiful glass basket made in Italy that she got when she traveled there some years ago; also Barbara shared beautiful baskets that she made of yarn in 1983.
New business: we will invite the Lady Bugs club from Nutterfort to be our guest in October, also the club will send a get well card to Lesita Snider, we hope feels better soon. Reminder: Achievement and Demonstration day in November. We collected 36 cans of Pasta for the Mustard Seed today; next month’s donation will be Vienna Sausages. Plans were made for a luncheon tomorrow.
