West Virginia State Treasurer John Perdue was the guest speaker at the Lewisburg Rotary Club on Tuesday, July 17.
He discussed West Virginia’s financial situation as well as the programs administered by his office. He said this year we have a budget surplus for the first time in several years. The Treasurer’s Office administers the Unclaimed Property program that reunites current and former state residents with lost assets. He discussed the possible ramifications of the legalization of sports betting. He also stated that if marijuana becomes legalized, his office will make sure that the appropriate tax is collected. He explained the SMART529 Saving Plan and talked about being the past president of the National Association of State Treasurers.
