There will be a weekly lecture series on Women of the Old and New Testaments at St. James’ Episcopal starting Feb. 22.

St. James’ Episcopal offers Lenten Study on Women of the Old and New Testaments

Beginning Thursday, Feb. 22, St. James’ Episcopal Church, Lewisburg, will offer a weekly lecture series on the topic, Women of the Old and New Testaments. Presented by the clergy of St. James’, each week’s event will begin at 6 p.m. with a simple meal of soup and bread and continue with a 20-minute program followed by a time of questions and discussion.

Drawing on a number of biblical, historical and theological sources, the series will include such biblical figures as Elizabeth, Ann, Phoebe and Mary Magdalene. The first night, the Reverend Zach Drennen will discuss Deborah, the fearsome and wise judge from the Book of Judges. Rev. Drennen notes that “this is a wonderful opportunity for a deep dive into the rich scriptural and historical legacy of the oft-overlooked women who helped shape the Jewish and Christian faiths for millennia.” Subsequent lessons will be taught by the Reverend Joseph Lutz and the Reverend Amy McClure.

The series runs each Thursday through Mar. 21. Everyone is welcome to attend regardless of religious affiliation. See lewisburgstjames.org for more information about St. James’ Episcopal Church.
