The Spirit Riders 4-H group met on May 4. President Stokes began new business by announcing that she would be moving at the end of the week which led to Vice President Fitch-Simmons being appointed as president with the unanimous consensus of the members. An election was then held with C. Ellison being voted in as the new vice-president.
Next the club continued business from the previous meeting that included the high tunnel operations and status of the market lambs and goats. E. Jones, the student in charge of high tunnel operations, reported that the automatic watering system is functioning as intended. The plants are growing well with some still needing to be transplanted. The community sponsor will be bringing in the flowers next week. Adult leader Mr. Galford reported that two of the market lambs have been here since last week and the other four lambs and two goats should arrive next week. He reminded everyone of responsibilities toward the livestock and signs that would need to be monitored as feed levels are increased.
Members C. McCourt and J. Fitch-Simmons presented an educational program on “What to Look for When Selecting a Market Lamb.” The program helped all members complete an activity in their project book.
Afterwards the members reviewed aerodynamics principles from the previous meeting and assembled and flew Styrofoam gliders.
