Charleston-On Thursday, Aug. 13, 2020, Sonja Lorene Stone passed away at CAMC General Hospital in Charleston, WV, after a long hard fight with life.
Sonja was born Jan. 6, 1946, on her grandparents’ small farm in Clintonville to Ronelda Glee Beitz Stone and Joseph William “Bill” Stone both preceding her.
Sonja graduated from Greenbrier East High School. She attended and graduated from Scott’s Beauty School of Cosmetology in Martinsburg, WV. After gradation she worked at Evelyn’s Beauty Shop in Ronceverte.
She later married and moved to Virginia where she worked and retired after 18 years of employment with Virginia Tech. She also attended Radford University to further her education. Sonja was an avid WVU sports fan, and loved Virginia Tech until WVU played Virginia Tech where she became WVU all the way.
She also enjoyed playing and watching tennis and was an enthusiastic Nascar fan always cheering on Kyle Bush. She loved to travel internationally, enjoyed shag dancing, attended many venues up and down the East Coast.
Due to health issues she moved back to Ronceverte where she resided with her sister, Sandie and family.
She was preceded in death by her son, John William McMillion.
Survivors include; brother, William Dean “Bill” Stone (Gail); sisters, Sandra Stone Walton (Eddie), and Rosaletta Hudson; nieces and nephews, Gabe and Jason Stone, Robin and Russell Walton Autumn, Kali, and Brandon Hudson; other survivors include her favorite great-nephew, Joeseph “Joe” Walton, her favorite cousin, John Beitz (Sandy) and best friends, Gayle and Malcom Thornton.
Sonja was a kind spirit that will be missed by her family and friends.
Graveside services will be held on Monday, Aug. 17, at 11 a.m. at Riverview Cemetery in Ronceverte for family and close friends.
