An employee of Greenbrier Valley Solid Waste was injured this week when the garbage truck he was operating rolled over him.
According to information provided by the Lewisburg Police Department, Arkie Greer, 54, of Lewisburg was collecting garbage on Highland Circle in Lewisburg last Monday when the incident occurred. Dep. Chief C.J. Teubert said that Greer had parked the vehicle and set the parking brake before exiting and beginning to load garbage onto the truck.
The truck began rolling down the hill and Greer ran along side of the vehicle, when, according to Lewisburg Police Chief Tim Stover, he fell under the truck and it rolled over him. The truck continued to roll down the hill, coming to a rest in a yard.
Greer was transported to Greenbrier Valley Medical Center and then air lifted to another hospital for treatment of severe injuries to his stomach and shoulder.
Teubert was unable to comment on his medical condition.
Responding to the scene were the Lewisburg Police Department, Lewisburg Fire Department and Greenbrier County Emergency Ambulance.
