On July 2, 2025, a sheep found in the vicinity of Mountain View Road in Gap Mills tested positive for rabies. Rabies is a serious viral disease that can be transmitted to pets, livestock, and humans through bites or contact with saliva.

- Avoid contact with wild animals, especially raccoons, bats, skunks, and foxes.
- Ensure your pets and livestock are vaccinated against rabies and the vaccines are up to date.
- If you or your pet may have been exposed, contact your healthcare provider or veterinarian immediately.
On June 6, 2025, a skunk found in the vicinity of Mountain View Road in Gap Mills also tested positive for rabies. On May 29, 2025, a raccoon found in the vicinity of Scott Hollow Road in Sinks Grove tested positive for rabies, as well.
