The New River Community and Technical College Office of Workforce Education is sponsoring a Self Defense Seminar at the Advanced Technology Center in Ghent, from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 4.

The seminar will include physical technique and situational training and a question and answer session. The instructor is David Richmond, owner USA Martial Arts in Princeton. Richmond has more than 20 years of experience in martial arts and holds fourth degree black belts in Karate, Taekwon Do, Judo and Jujitsu. He also has a third degree black belt in Aaido and a second degree black belt in Aikido.

A native of West Virginia, Richmond began his martial arts career the early ‘90s. He graduated from Concord University in 2000 with a bachelor’s degree in computer information systems. In 2006, he was recruited by USA Karate, the national governing body for Sport Karate recognized by the US Olympic Committee, to lead their IT division and revitalize their complete IT infrastructure. Today he maintains a busy schedule teaching and training both civilian and law enforcement in empty-handed defensive tactics as well as firearm safety and tactics.

Tuition for the seminar is $60. For more information, or to register, contact Ken Lester in the New River Office of Workforce Education at 304-929-3313.
