A scene from Bizet’s Carmen

Greenbrier Valley Theatre (GVT), in partnership with the Met: Live in HD, is proud to present Georges Bizet’s Carmen.

The Met favorite will stream live Feb. 2 at 12:55 p.m. The simulcast will run approximately three hours and 21 minutes with one intermission. Dr. James Caplinger, from the University of Charleston, will give a complimentary lecture beginning at 12:15 p.m.

Tickets are $18 for general adult admission, $14 for seniors (60+) and $10 for children/students. For more information, call the GVT Box Office at (304) 645-3838 or visit www.gvtheatre.org.

Sir Richard Eyre’s masterpiece stars Clémentine Margaine in the title role alongside Roberto Alagna as her lover Don José. The live stream also features Aleksandra Kurzak as the peasant girl Micaëla, and the performance will be conducted by Louis Langrée.

“Sir Richard Eyre’s production of Carmen is praiseworthy for its ability to conjure meaning through the staging and its highly physical directions.” — operawire.com

Margaine has a distinguished resume, including Carmen at the Vienna State Opera and Paris Opera, Amneris in Aida at Opera Australia and Dalila in Samson et Dalila at Deutsche Oper Berlin. She made her Met debut in 2017 with Carmen.

Starring Clémentine Margaine as the seductive title character, Carmen will stream live Feb. 2 at 12:55 p.m. The simulcast will run approximately three hours and 21 minutes with one intermission. Dr. James Caplinger, from the University of Charleston, will give a complimentary lecture beginning at 12:15 p.m. For more information, call the GVT Box Office at 304-645-3838 or visit www.gvtheatre.org. This program is presented with financial assistance from the West Virginia Division of Arts, Culture & History, and the National Endowment for the Arts, with approval from the West Virginia Commission on the Arts.
