Julie Fisk Conner, born and raised in Ronceverte, recently published a children’s book titled, “It’s My Time to Fly.”
Please join us in welcoming Julie at the Ronceverte Public Library on Saturday, May 22, from 1 to 3 p.m. for a book signing and reading. Books will be available for sale or you may purchase them on Amazon and Barnes and Noble.
Julie is the daughter of Mary Thompson and the late Danny Fisk, granddaughter of Ralph and Ann Fisk, and granddaughter of Kelly and Ann Ford. Both Ann Fisk and Kelly Ford were avid supporters of reading to children in the elementary schools, and Kelly was a past Ronceverte Library Board member and supporter.
Julie graduated from Greenbrier East in 1998. In 2002 she received her B.S. in Psychology from Bridgewater and in 2008 obtained her M.Ed in Special Education from JMU and teaching certifications in Elementary Education, Intellectual Disabilities, Emotional Disabilities, Learning Disabilities, and Visual Impairments.
Julie has been a special education teacher for 18 years. She has taught students at various age/grade levels with a wide range of abilities, in multiple school settings, including public schools, a psychiatric care facility, and a school for the deaf and the blind. She has received national recognition from the Council of Schools and Services for the Blind as an “Outstanding Teacher of Students who are Blind/ Multiply Impaired.” She is currently employed by the Virginia School for the Deaf and Blind.
Julie lives with her husband, Adam, and their two children in Waynesboro, VA. She truly hopes this book will be an inspiration to others, imparting the message that it is okay for metamorphosis to take place at an individual pace!
“Every child can learn – just not the same things on the same day, or in the same way.” – George Evans.
