The Ronceverte City Council held their monthly meeting on Monday, Sept. 8, after a one-week delay due to the Labor Day holiday. During the meeting, Ordinance 2025-05, related to Home Rule, was introduced and discussed. This ordinance would allow for “on-the-spot” citations, aiming to streamline the current lengthy process for issuing citations related to unsafe conditions. The ordinance was read by title only, marking its first reading – two readings are required before final approval. A motion to approve the first reading of Ordinance 2025-05 was made and passed by the council.

Ordinance 2025-06 was also introduced and read by title only. This ordinance pertains to the disposition of city property. When the city sells property, if the amount exceeds $1,000, a bid must be held. Home Rule would allow this threshold to increase from $1,000 to $25,000 before a bid is required. A motion was made to approve the first reading of Ordinance 2025-06 and approved by council members.

Dan Withrow gave a presentation about a fundraiser on Saturday, Sept. 27 that will be held for the Ronceverte Public Library. This fundraiser is a “Blues, Cruise, and Barbeques” event, where tickets will be sold for $20. Additionally, there will be a half-and-half drawing and a silent auction. A request was made to block off the street in front of City Hall from 5 to 9 p.m. for chairs to be set up for the concerts. All proceeds will go to the Library. The council will be considering this request and meeting with the police chief regarding closing the street.

An additional presentation was given by Americorp VISTA worker Bill Montgomery, who will be coordinating the projects on the Armory. He gave a short overview on the history of the Armory and what Americorp does as well as some of the ideas they have for the Armory. Anyone interested in volunteering or donating can contact City Hall for more information.

The city has also established a dedicated email address for questions. Ronceverte residents may send an email to questions@cityofronceverte.com, which will be continuously monitored.

The next meeting of the Ronceverte City Council will be Monday, Oct. 6, at City Hall.
