Eva-Maria Westbroek as Minnie and Jonas Kaufmann as Dick Johnson in Puccini’s La Fanciulla del West

Greenbrier Valley Theatre (GVT), in partnership with the Met: Live in HD, presents Puccini’s western La Fancuilla del West.

This thrilling drama will stream live Oct. 27 at 12:55 p.m. The simulcast will run approximately three hours and 33 minutes with two intermissions. Dr. James Caplinger, from the University of Charleston, will give a complimentary lecture beginning at 12:15 p.m.

Tickets are $18 for general adult admission, $14 for seniors (60+) and $10 for children/students. For more information, call the GVT Box Office at 304-645-3838 or visit www.gvtheatre.org.

Starring as the gun-slinging lead is Eva-Maria Westbroek, her outlaw love Dick Johnson will be played by Jonas Kaufmann and Željko Lučić will portray his nemesis, the sheriff, Jack Rance. The production will be conducted by Marco Armiliato.

“From his first entrance to his last exit alongside Westbroek, Kaufmann WAS Dick Johnson. He moved about with confident swagger of a cinematic cowboy, rubbing off insults with a vibrant smile.” — Opera Wire

Kaufmann made his Met debut in 2006s La Traviata as Alfredo and has since filled many complex roles. These roles include title characters in Parsifal and Faust. Upcoming roles include the title character in Verdi’s Otello at the Bavarian State Opera and, in another Verdi masterpiece, Don Alvaro in La Forza del Destino at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden.

The program is presented with financial assistance from the WV Division of Arts, Culture & History, and the National Endowment for the Arts, with approval from the WV Commission on the Arts.
