Rodney O’Neil Ayers

Ronceverte-Rodney O’Neil “Red” Ayers, 76, passed away Friday, Sept. 6, 2019, at Peyton Hospice House after a short illness.

He was born in 1943 in Monroe County on Feb. 26.

Rodney served in the United States Army from 1961 to 1972, He served one term in Germany and two terms in Vietnam where he earned the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Service stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and a Sharpshooter Medal.

He was preceded in death by his father, Gerald Ayers and mother, Irma Ayers Treadway.

He is survived by a sister, Annie Ayers Davis; and brother, Dale Ayers and wife Diane; nephew, Mark David and wife Tracey; great-nephew, Andrew Davis; and many good friends including Joe Carola and son Steve and wife Susan Morgan as well as many others.

Per Rodney’s request, he will be cremated and there will be no service. There will be a memorial service at a later time where his ashes will be spread on his home place.

Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Ronceverte is in charge of arrangements.
