Rodney Lee Knapp, 80, passed away on Monday, Mar. 24, 2025, in Summers County. He was born in McRoss, WV, to Clarence Knapp and Elizabeth Knapp on Mar. 26, 1944.
Rodney graduated from Rainelle High School in 1963 where he played on the Class A State Champion football team in 1962. After graduation, his first job was with the Hammond Organ Company in Chicago, IL. Upon returning to West Virginia in 1968, he was a tractor trailer driver for multiple companies over several years.
He then worked as The District Manager of the Greenbrier County Sewer & Water Plant in Rainelle for over 25 years before retiring in 2007, and stayed on for them as a consultant for another two years. Rodney was a member and deacon of Old Greenbrier Baptist Church. He was also a 50-year member of the Alderson Masonic Lodge #70. Rodney’s hobbies included farming, driving and collecting sports cars, competing in shooting matches, hunting, trout fishing, and watching Mountaineer Football.
He was preceded in death by his father, Clarence Knapp, his mother, Elizabeth Knapp, his sister, Carolyn Thompson, and his identical twin brother, Ronald Knapp.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Jo Knapp and daughter Michelle Knapp-Huffman of Alderson; granddaughters, Cynthia Stacks (Eddie) and Tiara Henson of Dothan, AL; great-granddaughters, Alaina, Delilah and Nevaeh Stacks; along with many nieces, nephews and close cousins.
Rodney held a variety of relationships with many people across the region, and loved his family more than anything. He was married over 61 years to his beloved wife Carolyn Jo Knapp. Their greatest joys were their family.
Rodney gifted his body to the WVSOM Human Gift Registry in Lewisburg, WV. A memorial service and fellowship will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 18, at Old Greenbrier Baptist Church in Alderson, WV. A meal will be served in the fellowship hall at the conclusion of the service.
