The Greenbrier River Rollers’ Vixens are now entering their fourth season of women’s roller derby competition as they host their upcoming 2015 season opener. On Saturday, Apr. 11, Greenbrier will take on the Appalachian Hell Betties of Athens, OH, in a first time meeting between these two teams.

In addition to their new league name and new logo this season, Greenbrier’s upcoming game will take place in their new home venue, the West Virginia Building of the state fairgrounds. Musical entertainment by Greenbrier East High School’s “2nd Block Rock” will begin at 5 p.m. and concessions will be provided by When Pigs Fly BBQ. There will also be vendors selling various items such as Jamberry Nails and Advocare.

Greenbrier River Rollers, a 501(c)(4) organization, routinely donate a portion of their bout proceeds to a local charity and have selected the Children’s Youth and Advocacy Center (CYAC) to receive a portion of the proceeds from the Apr. 11 bout.

In celebration of their fourth season, ticket prices have been reduced and kids age 5 and under are free for this family friendly event. Tickets are available at the door or in advance at the Wild Bean and When Pigs Fly BBQ. Bleacher seating is limited but you are encouraged to bring your own chair and sit trackside. Doors open at 5 p.m., first whistle is at 6 p.m. Come out to show your support for roller derby and CYAC. Following the game, join the team at the Irish Pub on Washington Street for the after-party.
