Dawson-Rita Jean Honaker, 63, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Jan. 10, 2019, at Peyton Hospice House in Fairlea.

Rita was born June 28, 1955, in Ronceverte, the daughter of Joe Honaker and Wilda Morgan Honaker of Ronceverte.

Rita was a graduate of Concord College. She became a social worker for FMRS Health Systems until her diagnosis of lung and brain cancer in 2006. Rita was a true survivor for over 12 years as she beat the odds many times with her illness. Rita taught us about Faith and determination as she fought through the years. She enjoyed taking her grandsons to the river when she was younger and enjoyed the outdoors, feeding her birds, crossword puzzles, watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy, and spending time with her family and her grandsons.

About ten years ago Rita joined Mt. Zion Primitive Baptist Church and loved her church and church family with anticipation of the weekends to go with her parents to church.

Preceding her in death are her sister, Bonita Masters; her maternal grandparents, Glen and Laura Morgan and her parental grandparents, Verdie and Elva Honaker.

Surviving her other than her parents, daughter, Laura Witt (Paul) of Dawson; brothers, Steve Honaker (Rita) of Ronceverte and Lanny Honaker (Terri) of Kenai, Alaska; grandsons, Tyler O’Brien of Marshall, VA and Jacob Witt of Dawson; three nephews, Jared Masters (Alyssa), Eric Honaker and Jordon Masters; and niece, Carrie Neese (Cory).

Funeral services were held Sunday, Jan. 13, with Elder Norval Mann officiating at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Ronceverte. Interment was in the Morgan Cemetery, Ronceverte.

The family received family and friends before the services at the funeral home.
