Town-Rhonda Ann Gordon was called home for eternal rest with God, whom she loves so much, on Friday, Aug. 20, 2021. She was born in White Sulphur Springs on July 20, 1947, at home on Salisbury Avenue to the late Edna S. Brown and James N. Swann III.
Rhonda was a graduate of Lewisburg High School. She married her high school sweetheart, the late James (Jim) Gordon, at the age of 17. To this 20-year union, she had four children. While working and caring for her family, she attended Greenbrier Community College. She worked for Bendix in the engineering department in Lewisburg until she was laid off. Feeling Bendix did wrong, she filed a class-action lawsuit which lead to others that were laid off, being rehired. She always wanted to help others and she read many self-help books. Her entrepreneurial spirit and desire to help lead her to New York Life as an insurance agent in Silver Spring, MD. She found a passion in real estate in 1989 when she first got her Maryland real estate license. She worked part time for Marriott as a night auditor while selling real estate during the day. She left Maryland for Miami Beach transferring with Marriott and getting her Florida real estate license. She moved to Phoenix for less than two years and started her career with America West (American) in October 2006. Missing her family, she moved to Charlotte in 2008 to be closer to family, being near her grandchildren, children and mother. She bought a beautiful home in Indian Trail, NC in 2019 where she could gather with her family and create memories. She didn’t care much for TV but would rather have a conversation with you or read a book. She had a green thumb and could make any plant grow. She loved to travel, whether a family vacation to a beach or girl trips to the casino. She was a hard worker and a constant giver.
Rhonda was a loving and giving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, niece, cousin, friend and neighbor. Her greatest love was her family.
Other than her parents and former husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Dwain Swann and Michael Swann.
Survivors include children, Tracy Gordon, Indian Trail, NC, James (Jay) Gordon, Lewisburg, Lisa Mackey (Chris), Lewisburg, and Melissa (Kelly) Gordon, Indian Trail, NC; siblings, Jimmy Swann, Roanoke, VA, Dot Swann, Lewisburg, and Rick Brown (Zina), Low Moor, VA; nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, aunts, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
